ILLiad polices and terms of use

Registered users

Interlibrary Loan services are available to currently registered Saint Martin's University undergraduate and graduate students. This includes students at Saint Martin's extension campuses: Centralia College, Fort Lewis Army Post, McChord Air Force Base, Olympic College, Hong Kong, and online students. Faculty, staff, and members of the monastic community may also use ILLiad. At this time, ILLiad is not available to community members or Saint Martin's alumni.

To use ILLiad, a current, unblocked patron record is needed in the O'Grady Library Circulation system. Any patron who does not have a current record or has outstanding charges owed will not be allowed to register with ILLiad. These blocks will need to be cleared up at Circulation (360-486-8802 or circulation@stmartin.edu) before proceeding with registration.

Limits

ILLiad will limit the amount of active requests a patron has at any given time based on the status of the patron. However, this is a revolving limit. Once your delete a journal article from Electronic Delivery or your return a a book, video, or microfilm, the number of your active requests is reduced and you may submit more. Patrons who find that they have reached their limit are encouraged to contact the Reference staff by phone (360-486-8803) or email) to obtain assistance in identifying materials that are available in the O'Grady Library collection or through Summit.

  • Undergraduates: limit of 10 outstanding requests
  • Graduates: limit of 15
  • Staff: limit of 15
  • Faculty and members of the monastic community: unlimited

Hong Kong and online students

O'Grady Library does not currently provide delivery of physical materials off-campus. Books, videos, and the like must be picked up at the O'Grady Library Circulation desk and so cannot be provided to Hong Kong or online students who cannot travel to the campus. You may request articles and book chapters, both of which can be delivered electronically as PDFs.

Fees, fines, and overdue items

ILLiad is a service budgeted and paid for by O'Grady Library. There is no charge for requesting or receiving items from Interlibrary Loan.

To maintain positive relationships with lending institutions, it is essential that items that we borrow are returned in a timely manner and in good condition. Patrons are encouraged to return material by the due date. If items are not returned by that date, an overdue fine will be assessed at the rate of $1.00 per day per item. All registered users of ILLiad are subject to this fine. Patrons who return items damaged will be subject to any fines levied by the lending institution. Those who lose items will be assessed the replacement cost. Fines which are not paid will be sent to student accounts or, for faculty and staff, to human resources.

Overdue notices will be sent by e-mail unless otherwise specified. Three notices will be sent: the first when the item is one day late, the second when it is twelve days late, and the third when it is three weeks late. Billing will take place on the fourth week.

The day an item becomes overdue, your ILLiad record will be blocked, as will your O'Grady Library record. This means that you will not be able to make ILLiad requests, or check out material from the O'Grady Library, the Washington State Library, or The Evergreen State College Library until the items are returned and the fine is paid.
